This was the last show that Kris directed in Australia before moving overseas. It allowed him to work with a cast of young performers who were really emerging in Melbourne.

The staging conceit was to try and find a way to link the pieces, so it wasn't so "revue-ie". It ended up being staged in a "magical promenade" - a kind of dreamlike environment where you could imagine these characters were coming to answer critical questons in their life before they moved on. The specificity of the Kander and Ebb songs really worked well in a context that was more unreal.

“Australia’s up-and-coming music theatre talent in this stylish musical review … presence and class … is impressively presented – the stunning young cast meet (all challenges) enthusiastically and confidently, skillfully guided by director Kris Stewart …” JIM MURPHY, (Saturday July 13, 2002), The Age.

“Alice in Wonderland meets a Brunswick Street café … a credit to the director Kris Stewart … poise and stage craft was immediately apparent … well rounded, beautifully controlled … sensitive approach and attention to detail … I was thrilled to see such a capable and professional group attacking a truly substantial body of work.” CHRIS HUGHES (July 15, 2002) www.theatrepeople.com.au
