KRIS STEWART
Artistic & Executive Director
CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER - QMUSIC
For five years, Kris worked as Chief Executive Officer of QMusic, the peak body for Queensland's music sector, the state-wide representative voice for Queensland’s musicians, music workers, live music venues and fans.
During this time he led a remarkable organisational transformation, growing income 2.5x to $4.42 million and building a diverse funding base of 72 government, corporate and philanthropic partners from a starting point of a $173,892 loss in 2020.
As CEO, Kris oversaw a portfolio of state-significant events and programs including BIGSOUND — the largest music industry event in the Southern Hemisphere — the Queensland Music Awards, Valley Fiesta, Tropic Fiesta, and the statewide Industry Connect development series. Under his stewardship, BIGSOUND grew into an event delivering $20.15 million in value to the Queensland economy, generating $10.85 in community return for every dollar of public investment.
His advocacy work during this period was substantial, securing more than $20 million in Queensland Government investment for the music industry, contributing to the development of the federal Revive Live program, and delivering witness testimony to the Federal Government Inquiry into Live Music.
Kris also initiated several significant programs during his tenure, including Goolwal Goolwal — Australia's first national Indigenous music export program — as well as BIGSOUND's first Accessible Stage and the Concert Care safety program.
